Anti-Bullying Resources

Bullying is a persistent problem throughout schools in the United States. As a society, it seems we have accepted bullying as a rite of passage. However, we have seen time and time again how bullying crushes the spirit of a person and damages their self-esteem. It is something that we all acknowledge as a society, but do little to combat.

Water 4 Seeds believes that no one has a right to belittle, demean or degrade a child/person for any reason. It is important that we advocate not only our own children, but all vulnerable children.

It is important to handle bullies by age group, including the input of all related parents/guardians, school officials, and local authorities when necessary. The goal is to establish mutual respect and healthy boundaries. This is a good time to check out our "Self Esteem" section, then come back here.

When it comes to combatting bullying we believe it is important to:
-Teach children empathy early and the old idiom “put yourself in the other person's shoes"
-Have bully discussions. Asking your children if they are experiencing bullying and figure out ways to resolve the issues amicably
- Teach our children to be a good friend and neighbor; this helps to stop the urge to participate in bullying others
- Educate our children on cyber bullying and social media safety
- Enroll your child in self-defense classes such as martial arts, taekwondo to help them learn to protect themselves from physical assault

Combating bullies can be tough, but it is best to educate ourselves and our children for their safety and protection.

DISCLAIMER: We want to stress that although we do provide resources, it is important that you seek the assistance of school officials and your local law enforcement authorities if your child is experiencing persistent bullying or violence from their peers. Please consult with an attorney if you deem that the school officials are not doing enough to stop the bullying or harassment. This collection of articles is not a substitute for professional or legal help. Please contact local law enforcement if the bullying persists and/or results in violence.
